Repairs and restoration

A repair service carried out by goldsmiths

Our repair service is carried out by experienced craftsmen and goldsmiths. We cover the whole spectrum, from chain and bracelet repairs to precious and semi-precious stone replacements, delicate claw work and antique restorations.

No matter how impossible a repair may seem, Aris Jewellers has the traditional craft skills to achieve a sophisticated and seamless result. We pride ourselves on high standards. All repairs are carried out in house, and work is fully insured while it is on the premises.

We carry out all aspects of jewellery repairs, watch repairs, watch strap repairs and bespoke commissions. Bring the piece in during workshop hours and we will look at it before anything is taken apart.

Alterations that keep the piece wearable

Sizing

Rings that have worn thin, or that no longer fit, can be rebuilt or sized. A shank that has been worn for decades is a common job for the bench.

Re-modelling

Clasps, chains and bracelets are repaired or rebuilt. If the original design is tired, we can re-model it rather than replace the whole jewel.

Re-mounting

Stones from an older setting can be re-mounted into a new one. Your own gold can be used where it is suitable, which keeps both the material and the cost in check.

Antique restoration

Antique restorations need a lighter hand than a modern repair. Claws, milgrain and old cuts are easy to spoil if they are treated like new jewellery. The workshop’s starting point is to keep what can be kept, and to replace only what has actually failed.

Stone replacement covers precious and semi-precious gems. If a stone is missing from a cluster, bring the piece even if you no longer have the original — matching is something we do regularly.

Watches and straps

Watch repairs and watch strap repairs sit alongside the jewellery bench. From the early years of Bournemouth Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, watches have been part of what the business offers the public. Bring the watch in and we will tell you whether it is a strap, a fitting, or a repair that needs the movement looked at.

Valuations and insurance

We carry out jewellery valuations and insurance assessments, and we are registered with the National Association of Goldsmiths. Insurance quotations are part of the same conversation: if a piece is being repaired or redesigned, it is a sensible moment to check that the cover still matches it.

Recycling jewellery

As the occasion demands, we make ad-hoc purchases and recycle some items of jewellery. This is subject to an initial assessment and valuation. Broken chains, single earrings and outdated gold can often be used towards a new piece or a repair, once we have seen them.
